Position: Painter — Mil Spec

Reports to: Production Manager

Job Hours:

  • 7:00am-3:30pm shift, Mon-Fri.

  • Flexible to work extended hours as needed

Job Summary:

The Painter is responsible for performing paint applications to assemblies as required by each unique work traveler.

Supervisory Responsibilities: N/A

Responsibilities:

  • Prepares surfaces for finish with sandblasting, grinding, scraping, deburring, sanding, and cleaning grease and dirt as necessary.

  • Applies masking over parts and areas that are not to be painted and covers surrounding surfaces with proper tape.

  • Mixes, matches, and applies prime wash, primer and paint as required.

  • Cleans paint splatters, spray guns, and brushes, and maintains equipment in ready condition.

  • Ensures the use of appropriate technical references and tools including safety data sheet.

  • Conduct the painting process safely and professionally.

  • Follow the job traveler and assembly print documentation to carry out required painting tasks.

  • Complete the required documentation for each work traveler accurately and on time.

  • Responsible for documenting the correct purchase order numbers of the paint used on the assemblies on the work travelers and sign and date upon completion.

  • Responsible for updating and maintaining the required paint log regularly.

  • Maintain paint and supplies in an organized manner, and change filters when needed.

  • Continually monitor and restock department supplies.

  • Maintain a safe, organized, and clean work environment.

  • Additional duties may be assigned.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Proven Mil-spec experience as a painter in an aerospace or manufacturing setting.

  • A steady hand and great attention to detail.

  • Strong hand and eye coordination with the ability to perform precision work using various hand tools and techniques.

  • Strong ability to follow written and prescribed work instructions/procedures and tasks.

  • Good communication skills, able to speak clearly and convey information to others.

  • Good time management skills.

  • Read and understand drawings and travelers.

  • Ability to sit or stand for extended periods of time.

Education and Experience:

  • 2 – 10 Prior Mil-Spec painting required.

  • 2 -5 years’ experience with gravity fed HVLP spray guns required.

  • Experience with NADCAP paint process preferred.

  • Experience working in a manufacturing environment preferred.

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.

Accountabilities:

  • Achieve deadlines (production, reporting).

  • Achieve quality standards within acceptable limits (first-pass yield).

  • Maintain a clean and safe working environment.

Physical Demands:

  • Occasionally be required to push, pull and move objects up to 50 pounds.

  • Hearing, seeing ability to include depth perception, peripheral vision and rapid mental coordination. 

  • While performing the duties of the job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk and reach with hands and arms.

Work Environment:

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts and fumes or airborne particles.

  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

  • Workspace is not climate controlled.
